How it began

One or two months ago, it was lunchtime, and I was hungry for a burrito. When I reached my destination, there was a man with a shopping cart and a dog sitting on the curb in the parking lot. I asked him if he was hungry and got some food and water for him and his dog.

We talked for a bit, and I realized his mind was stuck in a loop. He told me a bit of his story again and again and again. As the conversation turned toward God, he said, "I love my God, and I love my Jesus," but did not believe he had been saved, which broke my heart.

He had lost everything.

Every time I have run into a homeless person, I have had a used Bible with me. This was my last one. I read him some Scripture, and he listened as I explained it. I gave him the Bible, and he begged me to see him again so I could explain more to him, as he could not understand it.

I tried to find him a few days later and could not. I have forgotten his name, but from that point forward, God placed the desire in my heart to minister to the homeless, starting with giving them Bibles that were accurate in translation and easy to read.

Since then, I have had the opportunity to buy a meal for two more people and talk about God with them.

I am truly blessed that God's faithfulness, love, and compassion in my own life has spilled over to the homeless in this way.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

~John 1:5~

I pray that in an area where many people claim to follow Christ, we will not be just talk. We will be action. Imagine what would happen if every Christian stepped out and did what God called them to! We'd live in a completely different city.

I am asking you to join me in reaching the homeless, through giving, volunteering, and through prayer. Let this spark of an idea become a fire that can never be put out.
